What we've learned in shopping for high chairs:
1. The most important feature in a high chair is how easy it is to clean. Look for removable trays that are dishwasher safe and ensure that the size of that tray will actually fit into your dishwasher.
2. Toys are a nice feature, but too many toys distract babies from the task at hand- eating. So, if you'd like a toy feature, aim for a high chair with just one toy.
3. Even if you plan to have the high chair out all the time, a foldable chair is nice. It moves more easily, and makes for better storage between babies.
4. Wooden high chairs look nice, and are popular for this reason, but it seems you pay for it. Both the Stokke and the Eddie Bauer high chairs are some of the most expensive on the list. In addition, consider how well the chair folds and how easy it is to clean when buying a wooden chair.
5. While the Space Saver high chair is a favorite for obvious reasons, it is a little hard for very young babies. This may be a nice 'upgrade' once your baby is around a year old. Also, be aware that the chair is more likely to tip than any high chair would and prepare accordingly.
6. If you travel a lot to relatives' houses, and would like a high chair for there too, consider the BabyGo. The chairs that latch onto a table never seem to work as most people don't like the idea of marks left from a hanging chair on their tables. But the BabyGo is a full size, foldable chair. A good in between for travelling parents.
